Leaves on the line, flooding on the tracks and rails are too hot – they’re all reasons we’re used to hearing for delays on the train.
Well, that’s the headache that Network Rail has had to solve today, causing lengthy delays on the West Coast Main Line.
A herd somehow managed to get in the way of trains shortly before 9am today, causing problems along the entire route.
They escaped their field in Staffordshire and because of a delay in getting hold of the farmer responsible, problems were being reported for four hours.
The cows caused problems for Avanti West Coast and Lumo services between London Euston and Scotland, as well as London Northwestern Railway and West Midlands Railway services.
One stranded passenger posted on X to ask: ‘How long does it take to move cows off the line?’
A spokesperson said: ‘Our teams attended the scene and, with assistance from farmers, were able to resolve the situation around 1pm.
‘Normal working will now resume. We are sorry to those affected by this disruption.’
