The Washington Commanders are starting the season on a paw-sitive note with the announcement of their new team dog, TJ.
TJ, a 12-week-old yellow Labrador retriever puppy, is joining the team to work on becoming a service dog, according to a press release.

Through the Commanders’ partnership with Redwire, a drone technology partner for the team, TJ’s service dog training will serve as a military engagement effort.
The Commanders posted the announcement on X on Wednesday.
TJ comes from the Maryland nonprofit organization Warrior Canine Connection. The organization helps wounded veterans by pairing them with a service dog in training to create a therapeutic environment while preparing dogs for their future.

Redwire’s senior program manager, Jeremy White, decided on the name TJ based on White’s military call sign, “TJ1.”
Fans can expect to see TJ at Commanders events, including some home games, training camp, and community activities.
