‘A WALL is a WALL’: Trump mocks Congress for talking about fences, barriers

President Trump called on lawmakers to “stop playing political games” and call the border wall a wall, an apparent response to lawmakers who say Congress may only end up approving a border fence or a “barrier.”

“Lets just call them WALLS from now on and stop playing political games! A WALL is a WALL!” Trump tweeted Thursday morning.

Last month, Trump said the wall would be “beautiful” and made of “artistically designed steel slats,” so border patrol agents could see what was happening on the other side.

But some have called the wall a physical barrier to get around Democratic complaints about Trump’s wall.

Trump added Thursday that there are already portions of the promised border wall that have been built and other sections that are already under construction.

“Large sections of WALL have already been built with much more either under construction or ready to go. Renovation of existing WALLS is also a very big part of the plan to finally, after many decades, properly Secure Our Border,” Trump posted to Twitter. “The Wall is getting done one way or the other!”

Trump has said a wall is needed to end a humanitarian crisis at the border, and the importation of drugs and crime from Mexico.

In his string of tweets Thursday morning, Trump said that the crisis is getting worse, citing the 33 percent rise in the amount of murders in Mexico from 2017 to 2018, and that crime is leaking into the U.S. through illegal immigration.

“Very sadly, Murder cases in Mexico in 2018 rose 33% from 2017, to 33,341. This is a big contributor to the Humanitarian Crises taking place on our Southern Border and then spreading throughout our Country. Worse even than Afghanistan. Much caused by DRUGS. Wall is being built!” Trump tweeted.
